The Guilford College women's volleyball team faced Meredith College in a home match. The Quakers fell to the Avenging Angels in five sets, 3-2.

Both squads were evenly matched through the first half of the set until Meredith (7-4) went on a 10-1 run to open a 17-9 lead. Guilford (2-8) notched the next four points before the Angels extended their lead to nine (22-13). The Quakers pulled within five but the visitors won the final three points to win 25-17.

The second set was very similar to the first with even play by either team. Guilford slowly started to take control of the set and grew its lead to six (22-16). Meredith claimed the next point but a kill from Kaci Johnson and a Hannah Stout ace closed the set, 25-17.

Just like the third, the Quakers were the first team to seize control and led by five (17-12). The Angels captured the next four to pull within one but a 5-1 run put GC up by five again (22-17). Meredith eventually cut the deficit to two but a kill from Paige McDonald sealed the set, 25-22.

In the fourth, Meredith opened the set on a 5-0 run and never looked back. The visitors grew the advantage to 10 and went on to win the set by that difference, 25-15.

The fifth and final set was intense with neither team giving an inch. Guilford slowly worked a four-point lead (11-7) including back-to-back kills from Johnson. Unfortunately, the Angels won eight of the final nine points to win the set, 15-12, and the match, 3-2.

McDonald and Natalie Moore led the offense with 15 kills. Maddi Page tallied 42 assists and 19 digs while Lydia Saunders added 17 digs.

Guilford travels to Salem, Virginia for a matchup with the Roanoke College Maroons on Tuesday, September 20. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
