The Guilford College baseball team faced Roanoke College in the final home game of the season. The Quakers fell to the Maroons, 14-8.
After a 1-2-3 first for both teams, Roanoke struck first in the top of the second. The visitors scored four runs on five hits including solo home run.
Guilford cut the deficit in half in the bottom half of the second.
Grayson Tudor doubled to drive in
Austin Bailey and
Izaac McGuire.
Both teams were scoreless in the third before the Maroons added two runs off a double and a single to go ahead by four. In the fifth, Roanoke grew its lead to five (7-2) on a sacrifice fly.
The Maroons then scored four in the sixth but the Quakers looked to have an answer.
Michael Sumner scored the first run off a
Colin Smith double.Â
Later in the inning, Tudor drove in two more runs on a single. Bailey later scored to cap off the inning.
Roanoke increased its lead with two runs in the seventh and a run in the ninth. Down to its final three outs, Guilford aimed to rally.
Adam Anderson kicked off the inning as Tudor scored on the ground out. Two batters later,
Nick Boles scored on a sacrifice fly.
Unfortunately, that was all the Quakers mustered as they fell by six runs. Tudor finished the day going 2-3 with four RBI and scoring once.
Guilford travels to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, April 30 for the final doubleheader of the season. Game one is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
