The Guilford College baseball team faced Bridgewater College in a road doubleheader. The Quakers fell to the Eagles in both games.
Game 1: Bridgewater 17, Guilford 0
Bridgewater wasted no time as it scored nine runs on four hits, six walks and an error. The Eagles added another run in the second and third innings.Â
In the fourth, the hosts scored two more runs before adding three in the sixth. BC scored one more run in the eighth to secure the win.
Game 2: Bridgewater 7, Guilford 5
After a scoreless first two innings, Guilford struck first when
Colin Smith singled to right center to bring home
Bryce Vestal. In the bottom of the third, Bridgewater scored two runs on a sacrifice bunt and a single to left field.
The Quakers responded and tied the game in the fourth when
Chase Wade singled to right field to score
Grayson Tudor. The Eagles recaptured the edge in bottom half of the inning before adding to it in the sixth to lead by two (4-2).
In the top of the seventh, Wade scored as Vestal grounded out to second. Later in the inning,
Austin Bailey tied the game at four as he scored on a Smith single to left center.
Bridgewater answered in its half of the inning with two RBI singles that scored three runs. GC added a run in the eighth when
Carter Blum scored when
Allden Horne reached on an error but unfortunately that was the final run scored.
Bailey, Smith, Blum and Wade each finished with two hits while Smith drove in two runs.
Guilford returns to McBane Field for a conference matchup with Roanoke College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
