Guilford Comeback Falls Just Short

The Guilford College women's lacrosse team traveled to Randolph College for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. The Quakers fell to the WildCats, 18-17.

Guilford scored the first goal to start off the match by Maggie Hartnett. Shortly after the Quaker score, Randolph scored their first goal less than a minute later.

Kylie Horn gave Guilford the lead off a pass from Kellie Pearson. 41 seconds later, Maggie Bryson extended the lead to two (3-1).

Towards the middle of the first quarter, the WildCats cut the deficit to one and kicked off a five-goal run to lead 6-3 at the 14:37 mark of the second. Horn scored her second goal of the game before the hosts added four more goals to close out the first half. Randolph led 10-4 at the break.

In the third, Horn completed the hat trick before Pearson found the back of the net. Randolph added a goal at the 7:20 mark before Alexandra Rundgren, Sydne Sawyer and Megan Jones each scored to pull Guilford within two (11-9) with 3:00 left in the third.

The WildCats answered with four-consecutive goals to increase their lead to six. Sawyer scored back-to-back goals followed by one from Hartnett and Pearson to make the difference two.

Randolph scored two goals separated by a Bryson goal. Guilford's Sawyer scored followed by Hartnett and then Horn to even the score at 17 with 2:59 left in regulation. Both teams went back-and-forth until the 1:36-mark when Randolph scored to secure the win.

Horn finished with five points (4G, 1A) while Hartnett (3G, 1A), Pearson (2G, 2A) and Sawyer (4G) each added four points. Zenna Carson made 13 saves in the match.
