Game Recap: Baseball |

Late Score Leads Quakers Past Pride

Despite leading for a majority of the game, the Guilford College baseball needed a run in the seventh to secure the 8-7 win over Greensboro College.

The first two innings were scoreless between both teams until the top of the third when Izaac McGuire scored on an error. Colin Smith followed with a RBI single to bring home Bryce Vestal. Grayson Tudor capped off the scoring as he crossed home thanks to an Isaiah Hairston single.

In the bottom half of the inning, Greensboro scored runs on a walk and a sacrifice fly to pull within one (3-2). In the fourth, the Pride took what was their only lead of the game when two runs scored off a single.

Trailing 4-3, the Quakers regained the lead off a two-RBI single from Jordan Burrough. Nick Boles scored on a McGuire single. Vestal then hit a single as Burrough crossed home plate.

Guilford remained in front, 7-4, until the bottom of the sixth when the Pride scored three runs on three hits to even the score.

In the following inning, Tudor singled as Vestal scored to give the Quakers the lead. From there, Adam Anderson and Jackson Marcellus preserved the 8-7 victory.

Vestal and McGuire led the team with three hits while Tudor, Smith, Hairston and Austin Bailey each collected two hits. Adam Anderson picked up the win in relief, going 2.2 innings with one run on three hits. Marcellus credited with the save as he closed out the ninth.

Guilford (5-14) hits the road to face the Generals of Washington and Lee University in a conference twinbill. Game one is set for 12 p.m.
