Game Recap: Softball |

Quaker Bats Silenced by Hornets

The Guilford College softball team stayed at home for an ODAC doubleheader against the Shenandoah Hornets. The Quakers lost both games, 3-0 and 4-2.

Game 1: Shenandoah 3, Guilford 0

As the first two innings went by fairly quick, neither team scored a run.

It came to the top of the third for Shenandoah to put the first run on the board. The Hornets scored on a single through the left side.

The next two runs from the Hornets did not come until the top of the sixth. They used a RBI double and single to expand its lead to three.

Shenandoah held on for the victory. Taylor Mitchell started in the circle and pitched all seven innings, allowing the three runs on 10 hits.

Game 2: Shenandoah 4, Guilford 2

The Hornets started game two by putting the first run on the scoreboard in the first inning with a RBI single

Following a scoreless second, Shenandoah added another run in the top of the third to go ahead, 2-0.

In the top of the fifth, Shenandoah kept the momentum and plated two runs on one hit.

Following those two runs, Guilford responded with two runs for themselves in the bottom of the fifth. Caitlyn Ray scored a run as Lauren Bowman reached on an error and Ally Morales advanced to second, 4-1.

Although the Quakers were trailing behind, they did not give up. The next at-bat, Grace Calus reached on a fielder's choice which led to Bowman advancing to second and Morales making it home.

Unfortunately, neither team crossed the plate once more as the Hornets went on to win by two.

Guilford (9-13, 0-2)) will remain at home to host a doubleheader against Eastern Mennonite on Sunday, March 27. Game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
