The Guilford College softball team hit the road for a doubleheader against Methodist University. The Quakers swept the Monarchs, 7-3 and 7-4.
Game 1: Guilford 7, Methodist 3
It took until the third inning for the Quakers to get on the board as
Ally Morales hit a sacrifice fly as
Caitlyn Ray scored. The Monarchs captured the lead in their half of the inning with two RBI double to right center.
The hosts advantage was short lived as
Katey Griswold brought a run in on a sacrifice fly. Two at-bats later, Ray homered to straight away center as
Kassidy Lancos scored. Methodist led of the fourth with a solo shot over the center field wall but that was the last run for the team.
In the top of the sixth,
Lauren Bowman doubled to right center to bring home
Alli Clemens and Ray to jump ahead 6-3. Lancos capped off the scoring in the seventh with a sacrifice bunt to bring home
Grace Calus.
Ray went 3-5 with two RBI and three runs including a homerun.
Shiloh Gray started in the circle and pitched all seven innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out nine.
Game 2: Guilford 7, Methodist 4
The Quakers wasted little time scoring in the second game as they scored three on a single by
Morgan Kinney and then an error committed by the defense.
Ally Morales then hit a single up the middle as Kinney scored to go ahead 4-0.
In the bottom of the third, the Monarchs scored three on three hits to pull within one. In the next half of the inning, Bowman singled to center as
Makenley Mitchell crossed home. Morales drove in another run with a single to right.
The hosts scored once more in the bottom of the sixth but Guilford notched the final run as Lancos scored on a wild pitch.
Abbie Hill and Morales led the team with three hits while Kinney and Morales drove in two runs. Gray picked up her second win of the day, pitching 4.2 innings in relief, allowing just one run on six hits and eight strikeouts.
Guilford (6-8) will host Ithaca College on Thursday, March 17. Game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
