Men's Basketball Tops Shenandoah

The Guilford College men's basketball faced Shenandoah in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) road matchup. The Quakers were able to defeat the Hornets Saturday afternoon, 70-49.

Opening the first half, the Hornets (3-18, 2-10) were able to gain the lead in the first seven minutes of the game. During those seven minutes, the game was tied twice but the Quakers (13-5, 8-2) were able to come out with the lead at 13:08, with a good free throw from Julius Burch, 10-9. 

Guilford stayed ahead the rest of the first half in double digits with help from Burch, Liam Ward and several others. Guilford ended the first half with the win , 37-23.

Coming out of halftime, the Quakers did not waste time. At 19:40, Joah Logan was able to make a three pointer to put the score at 40-23. Going back and forth, the Hornets were determined to close the gap. 

Despite the Hornets scoring three-straight baskets on the Quakers, Guilford was able to stay with and increased its lead to almost 20 points (48-30). For the remainder of the second half, the Quakers scored 22 points with help from five different players while the Hornets scored 19. The game ended with 70-49.

Ward led Guilford with 25 points and seven rebounds. Burch finished with 12 points while Tyler Dearman added eight points and 8 rebounds (3 off., 5 def.).

The Quakers shot 47.4-percent (27-57) with 36 points in the paint. The Quakers also out rebounded the Hornets 40-27 in the game.

Guilford will play at home on Tuesday, February 8, against Hampden-Sydney. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
