The Guilford College women's lacrosse team hosted North Carolina Wesleyan College for a Saturday matinee matchup. The Quakers took early control and never looked back, winning 15-6.
It was N.C. Wesleyan (0-2) who opened the scoring with a man-up goal. Guilford (3-0) responded with a goal from
Maggie Hartnett off a pass from
Maggie Bryson.
Kylie Horn gave the Quakers their first lead at the 5:18 mark of the first.
The Battling Bishops tied the game just under 30 seconds later. Horn gave the lead back to Guilford at the 1:25 mark with an assist from
Sydne Sawyer. GC led 3-2 going into the second.
Guilford took over in the second as it out scored the opposition, 7-1. Sawyer scored three goals while Hartnett and Horn added two goals. The Quakers led 10-3 at the half.
Only two goals were scored in the third with both coming from the visitors. Sawyer started the scoring in the fourth followed by another goal from Hartnett. NCWC scored its final goal of the contest. Hartnett and Horn tallied another goal on the day.
Caitlyn Fisher notched the final goal to give Guilford the nine-goal win.
Hartnett (5G, 1A), Horn (5G, 1A) and Sawyer (4G, 2A) each finished with six points. Bryson tallied five assists on the day.
Zenna Carson made nine saves in net for GC. The Quakers placed 23 shots on goal and won the difference in ground balls, 30-20.
Guilford will face Piedmont on Friday, March 4 at Appenzeller Field. Start time is 4:00 p.m.
