The Guilford College women's lacrosse team took on the Lions of Piedmont University. After gathering an early lead, the Quakers lost its their first game of the year, 8-3.
Both teams went back-and-forth for the first half of the opening period until
Caitlyn Fisher scored at the 7:41 mark. Over a minute later,
Sydne Sawyer netted a pass from
Maggie Bryson to take a 2-0 lead.
Piedmont (2-3) evened the game as it scored two goals in the final 3:37. The teams remained tied at two going to the second.
In the second, the Lions controlled the play and scored the three goals to lead 5-2 at the half.
The third was a defensive battle but the visitor grew its lead to five (7-2) with two more goals. In the final 15 minutes of regulation, Piedmont scored its final goal at the 10:40 mark. Guilford (3-1) found the back of the net once more off the stick of Sawyer. The Quakers ultimately fell by the five-goal margin.
Sawyer (2G) and Bryson (2A) each finished with two points.
Zenna Carson made 12 saves in the contest as GC was out shot 20-7 on goal.
Guilford is set to host Ohio Wesleyan on Friday, March 11 for a matinee showdown. Start time is set for 12:00 p.m.
