The Guilford College men's basketball team faced the Ferrum College Panthers on Tuesday evening. The Quakers forced 15 turnovers and had 11 different scorers in the 91-73 victory.
Ferrum (5-14, 0-10) made the first basket of the game to take a 3-0 lead.
Liam Ward kept Guilford (12-4, 8-1) with a layup and two free throws.
Jaylen Gore hit a three to give the Quakers their first lead of the game, 7-6, with 16:31 on the clock.
The Panthers reclaimed the lead with another three before Guilford went on a 9-0 run to go ahead by seven (16-9) at the 12:17 mark. Two free throws by the visitors paused the run but GC kept going with seven-straight points to take a double-digit (12) advantage.
Ferrum tried to cut into the deficit but the closest was eight points. The Quakers eventually extended the lead to 13 before a three by the Panthers' Jamar Butler to end the first half. Guilford led 46-36 as both teams went to their respective locker rooms.
To start the second half, both teams went traded shots before a three by the visitors pulled them within nine (55-46) with 17 minutes left in regulation.
From that point, the Quakers took control with a 10-0 run over the next 2:27 of game action. GC kept adding to its lead and eventually was ahead by 32 (88-56) with 5:00 on the clock.
Over the final four minutes of the contest, Ferrum scored the final 14 points but ultimately fell by 18 (91-73).
Ward led the Quakers with 18 points as
Jorden Davis and
Tyler Dearman each had 17 points. Gore added 14 points as
Julius Burch grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Panthers' Butler had a game-high 21 points. GC scored 36 points off the bench and only missed one free throw (17-18) on the night.
Guilford travels to face the number-one team in Division III on Thursday, February 3, the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
