Quakers and McMillan Best Crosstown Rivals

The Guilford College women's basketball team traveled to next door neighbor Greensboro College to face the Pride. The Quakers defeated the Pride, 89-79.

Greensboro started the first quarter off strong making six-straight points within the first two minutes of the game. Guilford ended the streak with a layup by Anna Giannopoulou. Through the first quarter, the Pride were able to keep their lead with multiple turnovers from Guilford. The Pride continued to increase their score to end the first quarter, 22-17. 

The start of the second quarter consisted of Greensboro making a clean three pointer. The Quakers were able to show up and show out by taking the lead at the seven minute mark with a jumper from Nyla Brown, 25-24. The Pride stayed right behind but the Quakers did not look back. With four-consecutive points with help from Lindsay Gauldin and Ashtyn Zeigler, the Quakers were able to remain in the lead which led to the final layup of the first half by Gauldin, 44-37. 

Guilford came out of halftime with great energy making a three pointer by Zeigler followed by a layup from Giannopoulou, 49-40. In the middle of the third, the Quakers scored back-to-back to increase their lead by 10. As the crowd got rowdy, the Pride were able to cut the gap by two with a layup from Aliyah Whiteside, 57-55. With less than two minutes on the clock, Greensboro came to swoop the lead and ended the quarter ahead, 66-63.

In the fourth quarter, the Quakers were trailing behind but it wasn't long until Guilford tied the score, 73-73, with a three pointer by Courtney McMillian, assisted by J'la Hinson. After tying the score, both squads continued to trade baskets as the Quakers found their touch and increased the difference to 10 by final horn.

McMillian led the Quakers with 25 points while adding on six rebounds and. Gauldin followed behind with 14 points and five steals.

Guilford will host their first home game against William Peace University on Monday, November 14. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
