The Guilford College men's soccer team welcomed the Fighting Squirrels of May Baldwin University. Three first half goals propelled the Quakers to a 5-0 win.
From opening kick, Guilford took early control and it paid off at the 5:26 mark. After the ball bounced around in the box, it found its way to the foot of
Bruno Gonzalez who buried it into the net.
The Quakers kept the pressure on as
Cameron Robinson played the ball up to
Kenny Nzekwe. Nzekwe made one touch around the goalkeeper and easily scored the second goal of the half.
Just over eight minutes later, Nzekwe found the back of net again, this time off a pass from
Angel Aragon. Guilford held the 3-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, Mary Baldwin began to control possession but GC evened the play. At the 75th minute
Cameron Robinson scored falling down after a ball placed by Aragon.
Under two minutes later,
Tai Tegeler netted the final goal off a pass from
George Wall. GC held on for the five-goal victory.
In net,
Ildis Vital-Peraza stopped all three shots he faced. The Quakers had 10 shots on goal compared to three for Mary Baldwin.
Guilford (3-5-3) hosts Shenandoah University on Saturday, October 8 on Homecoming Weekend. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
