The Guilford College men's soccer team hosted the 17th-ranked University of Lynchburg Hornets. The Quakers upset the Hornets, 1-0.
From the opening kick, Lynchburg controlled most of the possession. Guilford was able to withstand the attack of the Hornets.
The visitors registered four shots (one on goal) while the Quakers had one shot. The game remained scoreless at the half.
In the second half, Lynchburg began to quicken the pace and had several opportunities. However, Guilford goalkeeper
Roman Robinson stopped the three shots he faced.
In the 80th minute, the ball found its way to
Kenny Nzekwe. The senior forward made a move around two defenders and flipped the ball past the goalkeeper to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead.
Despite one final push by the Hornets, the GC defense stood tall and preserved the 1-0 victory.
Lynchburg out shot the Quakers 12-4 and 4-1 in shots on goal. Robinson stopped all four shots he faced.
Guilford (5-6-4, 3-4-1) travels to Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 22. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
