Guilford's men's soccer team made the shortest trek in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to Averett University. After leading at the half, the Quakers and the Cougars tied at two.
To start the opening half, Averett fired off three shots early but
Roman Robinson stopped each attempt. Guilford used the momentum and struck first as
Ryan Doyle scored with 13:20 on the clock.
Both teams were evenly matched for a majority of the half until the 39th minute when
Kenny Nzekwe doubled the Quaker lead. GC led 2-0 at the half.
In the second half, the Cougars controlled play as they recorded the first seven shots. Averett's persistence paid off with a goal at 72:21. Just 26 seconds later, AU found the back of the net once more to even the score.
Over the final 15 minutes, Guilford placed three shots on goal but none of them were able to find the back of the net. The game remained tied at two as the final horn sounded.
The Cougars recorded 12 shots on goal compared to nine for the Quakers. Robinson finished the night with 10 saves in 90 minutes of action.
Guilford hits the road for a match with Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, October 15. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
