Men's Basketball Cruises Past Bridgewater

The Guilford College men's basketball faced Bridgewater in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) road matchup. The Quakers took early control and went on to win against the Eagles, 61-43.

Opening the first half, Liam Ward made a jump shot followed by a made free throw putting the Quakers in the lead. Guilford (11-4, 7-1) continued out scoring Bridgewater (7-10, 3-6) to lead 14-11 with 9:44 to go in the first.

For a majority of the first half, the Eagles were able to stay with the Quakers. At 5:57, GC was up by six but the Eagles remained humbled and closed the gap, 19-17, with two made free throws. Fortunately the Quakers closed the half with a 9-0 run.

Coming out of halftime, Bridgewater trailed 26-17. Both teams continued to work on the court as the Eagles opened the second half scoring six points within the first five minutes compared to five for GC.

Despite eight-consecutive points from Bridgewater, the Quakers responded with 10 points to lead 43-33 at the 9:50 mark. For the remainder of the second half, the Quakers scored 18 points with help from Ward, Jorden Davis, Tyler Dearman, Julius Burch, and Jaylen Gore while the Eagles scored ten. Davis was the last to score, ending the game 61-43.

Liam Ward led Guilford with a double-double, scoring 23 points with 11 rebounds. Dearman finished with 13 points while Burch added eight points and 13 rebounds (7 off., 6 def.).

The Quakers shot 30.4-percent from the field with 30 points in the paint. The Quakers also out rebounded the Eagles 47-39 in the game.

Guilford will play at home on Tuesday, February 1, against Ferrum. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
