The Guilford College men's basketball team hit the road for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game with the Washington & Lee Generals. Four different players finished the evening in double-digits as the Quakers won, 77-65.
Coming out of halftime, Guilford (9-3, 5-0) led 43-38 as
Jorden Davis made a jump shot that kicked off a 12-0 run over the first five minutes. Washington & Lee (6-7, 4-3) ended the run at the 14:30 mark but were down by 15 (55-40).Â
Liam Ward responded with jump shot of his own as the score remained 57-40 over the next three minutes. The Generals tried to slowly cut the deficit but were unsuccessful as the Quakers held on for the 12-point victory.
Jaylen Gore led the way for all scorers with 18 points while also adding seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Ward was the next highest scorer with 15 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.
In the first half, Guilford scored seven of the opening 10 points to lead 7-3 at the 18:14 mark. W&L responded with its second three-point shot to pull within one. The Quakers held onto the lead until the 13:01 mark where the Generals evened the score and took its first lead (15-14).
Both squads exchanged the lead before GC went on an 8-4 run to lead by seven (40-33) with 2:40 to go in the first half. W&L hit a three-point shot to close out the half, trailing 43-38.
Davis added 14 points and eight rebounds while
Tyler Dearman contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
Jack d'Entremont led the way for the Generals with 16 points. The Quakers out rebounded 53-31 and scored 36 points in the paint.
Guilford returns to Jack Jensen Court on Saturday, January 22 to face Shenandoah University. Start time is 2:00 p.m.
