Quakers Complete 18-8 Win Over Emory & Henry

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford baseball completed an 18-8 victory ODAC foe Emory & Henry on Wednesday, recording 18 hits along the way. The Quakers (3-14, 2-14 ODAC) had six players with multi-hit performances including Ellis Stokes, who finished 4-for-4 from the plate with three runs scored and a pair of doubles.

Joining Stokes with multi-hit performances were Ty Clark (3-6, 3 RBI, 4 runs), Logan King (3-6, 4 RBI), Austin Bailey (2-6, 4 RBI, run, double), Isaiah Hairston (2-4, RBI, 2 runs, double) and Tanner Hobbs (2-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs). Clay Dilday (2-0) picked up his second win of the season, tossing five innings, allowing five hits, two runs and striking out a pair of Emory & Henry batters.

Guilford had five multi-run innings over the course of the game, including a five-run fifth and two three-run performances in the first and second inning.

After a three-run first inning by the Wasps, Guilford evened the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by a double by Hairston that plated Clark. The Quakers picked up three more runs in the bottom of the second, scoring two of those runs on a double by Bailey that plated Sam Mennitt and Stokes along the way.

Emory & Henry bounced back to even the score at six-all in the top of the third, but Guilford regained the lead with a grounder to short by Ty Clark that plated Larry McMillan II. The back-and-forth battle continued in the fourth with the Wasps tying the game at seven before a wild pitch allowed Hairston to trot home for the 8-7 Quaker lead.

In the fifth, Guilford scored five runs on five hits and took advantage of a Wasp error to move in front 13-7. There were four RBI singles in the frame from the combination of Clark, Bailey, Tanner Hobbs and Logan King.

Guilford followed with two runs in the sixth, stretching the lead to 15-7, before a double by Stokes in the seventh helped McMillan score. The final two runs came in the eighth for the Quakers, both of which came on a Logan King single that plated Hobbs and Clark.

The Quakers complete the 2021 regular season with a doubleheader against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, May 1st. The first game of the series is set for 12 p.m. and the second game will follow at 3 p.m.
