Quakers Earn Midweek Split with Ferrum

Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Six Guilford hitters had at least two includes, including Isaiah Hairston who finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, two runs and triple, helping lead the Quakers to a 14-12 win over Ferrum at Guilford College on Wednesday, April 21st.

Guilford (2-12, 2-12 ODAC) had 14 hits over the course of the game. Joining Hairston with multi-hit performances were Ellis Stokes (2-4, 3 runs), Austin Bailey (2-4, 2 runs), Brandon Ussrey (2-4, 2 runs, double), Allden Horne (2-5, 2 RBI, run), Ryan Mangum (2-4, run).

The Quakers were led on the mound by Clay Dilday (1-0), who tossed five innings, allowed eight hits, three runs and one walk while striking out five Panther sluggers.

After grabbing a 1-0 lead on a Hairston sacrifice fly, Guilford allowed two runs in the second before coming back with a pair of runs in the home half of the third. Hairston was responsible for both runs with a bases-clearing triple, scoring Bailey and Stokes along the way.

A Quaker run in the fourth extended the lead to 4-2 before a two-run fifth by Guilford, which came on a single to short by Allden Horne and a bunt single by Logan King, resulted in a 6-2 advantage.

Ferrum trimmed the lead to three, 6-3, in the top of the sixth. However, Guilford scored eight runs on four hits and took advantage of a Panther error to assume a 14-3 lead.

The Panthers (7-19, 4-13 ODAC) responded with five runs in the seventh, coming through with back-to-back doubles by Matt Yarbrough and Tyson Measamer, to make for a six-run Guilford lead.

Ferrum posted four more runs over the final two innings, including two in the ninth off a triple to left centerfield by Josh Greenway, but the Quakers ended the threat with a grounder to short.

Guilford takes to the road for its next three games, facing Lynchburg in a doubleheader on April 24th and Roanoke on April 27th.
