Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford baseball team dropped a doubleheader on Saturday, April 17th, to Bridgewater by scores of 13-6 and 15-3.
BRIDGEWATER 13, GUILFORD 6 (GAME 1)
The two teams combined for 31 hits in the first game with the Quakers (1-10) receiving multi-hit performances from Austin Bailey (3-4, RBI, run), Saunders Joplin (3-4, RBI, run), Michael Sumner (2-4, RBI, run), Sam Mennitt (2-5, run, double) and Isaiah Hairston (2-4, 2 RBI).
Guilford sent six pitchers to the mound, including Tanner Hobbs, who took the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in 2.1 innings.
Bridgewater scored seven runs in the first three innings, before a single to second by Bailey plated Sumner for the first Guilford run. The Eagles combined for three runs in the fourth and fifth frames, moving in front 10-1, before the Quakers tallied three in the fifth, highlighted by a two-RBI single to centerfield by Hairston.
One run each in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings resulted in a 13-4 lead for Bridgewater. Guilford scored twice in the home half of the eighth to make for the final 13-6 final.
BRIDGEWATER 15, GUILFORD 3 (GAME 2)
Guilford's offense produced 13 hits in the second game, led by Austin Bailey, who went 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Larry McMillian finished the game 3-for-4 from the plate, while Isaiah Hairston (2-4, 2 RBI) was responsible for the lone extra-base hit, a double.
The two teams faced two ties in the first three innings, reaching a 3-3 deadlock after three complete, before Bridgewater tallied three runs in the fourth, six in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the ninth to make for the 15-3 score.
Hairston's double came in the first, where he brought home Bailey for the only run of the frame. Two innings later, in the third, Bailey drove a single to short that plated Sam Mennitt. Hairston followed with a single to right, scoring teammate Bryce Vestal for the final Quaker run of the game.
Guilford will now head to Ferrum on Tuesday, April 20th for a 6 p.m. clash with the Panthers before returning home to face the same Ferrum squad on Wednesday, April 21st at 3 p.m.
