ROANOKE, Va. -- The Guilford College women's volleyball took the win against Hollins University on Wednesday evening, 3-0

 

THE BASICS

  • Scores: 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19)

  • Records: Guilford 5-10 (2-3 ODAC), Hollins 2-12 (0-6 ODAC)

  • Location: Howe Playing Courts - Roanoke, Va. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The first set started off with Hollins pulling out to a 3-0 lead.Guilford used a kill by Kaitlyn Kelley to switch its momentum, eventually posting six-straight points to go up 9-8.The pair were tied late in the match, but points by Adison Needham handed GC the set 25-30.

Set two kicked off to a different tune, as Maddi Page recorded her first service ace of the night. The Quakers led the entirety of the set, gapping out to a 15-4 lead at one point. Set two ended 25-16, in favor of GC, thanks in part to good judgement and a service error by Hollins. 

Once again, Guilford owned the third set, as Kelley put them in the lead, 2-1. The Quakers remained in the lead the rest of the third set, as they continued to control the scoreboard. After Hannah Stout scored on Hollins, 5-1, the hosts were forced to use a timeout. This set was similar to set two in the fact that Guilford was able to jump out to a 16-7 lead. Guilford ended the competition with another win by a team service ace with a score of 23-19.

 

TOP PERFORMING QUAKERS

  • Vanessa Johnson led her team with 11.5 points followed by Kaitlyn Kelley with 11. Kelley had the highest kill percentage with .500% as Johnson trailed with .429%.

  • Kelley also led her team with the most kills at 11 as Johnson followed behind her with eight. 

  • Maddi Page had the most assists in the game with 26 as she also scored three points.

  • Addison Needham and Hannah Stout were tied with six kills. Needham currently leads her team on the attack with 106 kills.

 

NEXT GAME

The Quakers are slated to travel to Shenandoah University on Saturday, October 9th at 12:00 p.m.
