Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Andile Tshuma's unassisted goal in the 55th minute proved the difference in the University of the South's 1-0 men's soccer win over Guilford College Friday. The contest in the Birmingham Southern College Labor Day Classic marked the season opener for both squads.
Sewanee (1-0) had a 10-4 first-half edge in shots, but Guilford goalie Zach Van Kampen made four saves and the Quakers' got a team stop to keep the Tigers off the board. Sewanee continued its offensive pressure in the second half with nine shots, to the Quakers' (0-1) three.
Sewanee's Will Merriman made four saves in goal for the shutout.
Guilford held a 9-4 edge in corner kicks and Van Kampen made six saves in his college debut.
