GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College's men's tennis team concluded it's regular- season with a 9-0 victory over visiting Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-rival Hampden-Sydney College Sunday on the McMichael Centennial Class Courts.
The Quakers (5-9, 5-5 ODAC) captured each of the three doubles contests by matching 8-1 scores to take an early 3-0 lead. Erik Meiler and Aaron Smedley teamed for a win over the Tigers' Patrick Bryant and David Anderson. Graham Pearson and Chasen Chacon defeated Trent Singleton and Harrison Stone at second doubles. The Quakers' Levi Bruff and Mesa Martorell improved to 9-0 at third doubles with their triumph over Nathan Horvit and Andrew Loving.
Guilford claimed each of the six singles matches in straight sets, including Meiler's 6-0, 6-0, shutout of Singleton at the number-one flight. Martorell had a tight win over Stone at second singles, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). Senior John Brvenik, who like classmate Meiler played the final home matches of their career, stopped Horvit at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers await the announcement of the eight-team ODAC Tournament field. The event begins with the quarterfinal round on campus sites May 1.
