Bridgewater Holds Off Guilford, 6-3, for ODAC Men's Tennis Win

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Host Bridgewater College pulled out a hard-fought 6-3 men's tennis win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-rival Guilford College Friday. The Eagles (7-9, 6-2 ODAC) went three sets to win the first- and second-singles contests and edged Guilford by two points for a first-doubles triumph.

The three doubles' contests set the match's tone. Kyle Hartfield and Joe Dillenback edged Guilford's Erik Meiler and Aaron Smedley, 8-6, at first doubles. The Eagles' Thomas Rischoff and Emmett Johnson earned an 8-4 second-doubles decision over the Quakers' Chasen Chacon and Graham Pearson. Guilford's Mesa Martorell and Levi Bruff scored an 8-5 win at third doubles over Bridgewater's Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner.

After a narrow doubles victory, Bridgewater's Hartfield held off Meiler at first singles, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. The Eagles' Rishcoff also needed three sets to get past Martorell, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-1, at second singles. Dillenbeck was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Guilford's Mason Church at third singles and Horner knocked off Pearson, 6-4, at sixth singles.

Guilford (4-8, 4-4 ODAC) scored singles points at fourth singles, where Smedley defeated Johnson, 6-4, 0-6, 6-1, and fifth singles, where Bruff took down Roberts, 6-3, 6-0.

Coach Dave McCain's Quakers host Roanoke College Sunday (4/17) at 3:30 p.m. in a league contest.
