Box Score SALEM, Va. - Guilford College's Darin Salter and John Todd combined to strike out seven batters as the Quakers claimed a Wednesday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Roanoke College, 5-2.
Salter (1-2) claimed the win in a seven-inning effort where struck out four and walked three while scattering nine hits. He received run support from his batters in the top of the fifth inning as the Quakers (16-18, 5-12 ODAC) mounted a two-out rally on a ground out and wild pitch, clearing the bases and responding to Roanoke's (20-13, 8-7 ODAC) one-out, one-run rally one half-inning earlier. Two two-out wild pitches advanced Logan Jones from second base to score the second run in the top of the sixth inning after stealing second base one out earlier.
Salter faced trouble in the bottom half of the inning as the Maroons mounted a two-out rally, plating a run and advancing runners into scoring position before Salter regained control to close the inning. Guilford plated two insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning in a two-out rally sparked by a Jacob Roberts RBI-single as the Quakers bounced back from recording outs in the first two at-bats of the inning. John Todd picked up his first save of the season as he shut the door in the final two innings, fanning three and allowing only one hit. Todd held Roanoke off the base paths in the final inning to secure the victory.
Roberts led the Quakers at the plate, batting three-for-four with one RBI. Jones finished two-for-three with a stolen base while Grayson Tuttle was the remain Quakers bat with a multi-hit evening, batting two-for-four.
Craig Kiley led Roanoke's bats, hitting two-for-four with a double while Will Decker added a double on his two-for-five evening.
Harrison Richards (4-3) claimed the loss for Roanoke in an eight-inning effort where he struck out seven and walked two and five runs on ten hits. Kiley threw the final inning and give up the last Guilford hit.
The Quakers return home Saturday for their final home games of the season, hosting Hampden-Sydney College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
