Guilford Completes Comeback in Five-Set Win Over Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Casey Davis had 15 kills and 24 digs to spark Guilford College's comeback volleyball win over visiting Greensboro College Tuesday night in the Ragan-Brown Field House. The scores of the match were 21-25, 25-15, 25-27, 27-25, 15-9.

The tight contest featured 37 ties and 14 lead changes. No team held the lead from start to finish in a set until the final set, and even it was tied at 1-1 before Guilford (4-10) gradually pulled away. After splitting the first two sets, Greensboro erased a 24-20 deficit in the third set to win, 27-25. Guilford also led, 24-20, in the fourth set only to see the Pride rally to tie the score at 24-24 and 25-25 before successive kills by Becca Benfield and Davis secured the match-tying victory.

The Quakers raced to a 6-2 lead in the decisive set, but Greensboro rallied to within 6-5. Following a Guilford timeout, the Davis served up six straight points thanks to a pair of service aces and two Heather Crawford kills. Greensboro drew to within 12-8, but the Quakers clinched the win on a quick-hit kill by setter Maile Munro.

The Quakers' Kelsey Ruehling accounted for 19 points with 14 kills, four service aces and a block. Munro set up 41 assists and added 13 digs. Crawford chipped in eight kills and four blocks. Steffi Dutton was solid on the back row with 22 digs.

Greensboro's Shayla Moss led all students with 16 kills on .273 hitting. Meredith Summers added 14 putaways, a match-best five aces and 15 digs. Breana Baker had 10 kills and 21 digs and libero Tori Belcher picked up a match-high 28 digs.

Coach Emily Gann's Quakers resume Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday (10/3) at Shenandoah University.
