LYNCHBURG, Va. – Guilford College notched its fifth straight win Saturday with a 9-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) decision at Lynchburg College.
The Quakers moved to 7-3 overall (6-1 ODAC) with the win. Lynchburg drops to 0-4 (0-2 ODAC).
Senior Turner Votipka did not lose a game in posting wins at first singles and first doubles. He defeated Josh Johnson, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles and paired with Erik Meiler for an 8-0 triumph over Johnson and Grady Allin. Sophomore Aaron Smedley made his season debut in the second singles slot and recorded a 6-0, 6-0, win over Allin. Smedley also won at second doubles where he and Trevor Cox notched an 8-2 win over Andrew Link and Jordan Falinski.
The closest match of the day was at third singles where Guilford's Mesa Martorell dropped the first set to Lynchburg's Link, but rallied for a narrow 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers host Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday (3/29) at 1:00 p.m. in a key ODAC contest on the Quakers' McMichael Centennial Class Courts.
