Guilford Men's Tennis Team Wins Fourth Straight Match

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Guilford College's men's tennis team won its fourth straight match and moved to 5-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Wednesday with a 9-0 triumph at Hampden-Sydney College.

The Tigers (1-8, 0-4 ODAC) dropped their eighth straight decision.

Guilford won two of the three doubles points by 8-1 decisions. The Quakers' top tandem of Turner Votipka and Erik Meiler won, 8-1, as did Guilford's third-doubles pair of Levi Bruff and Mason Church. Mesa Martorell and Mason Church downed the Tigers' Trent Singleton and Nathan Horvit, 8-3.

Votipka shut out Singleton, 6-0, in the first set of the first singles match before Singleton mounted a challenge in the second set before falling, 6-4. Meiler did not lose a game at second singles in a 6-0, 6-0, victory over Patrick Bryant. Chasen Chacon also had a shutout victory at sixth singles against Hampden-Sydney's Myshake Abdi.

Smedley lost just one game in a third-singles triumph and Martorell was another double winner with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Horvit at fourth singles.

Coach Dave McCain's Quakers visit league-rival Lynchburg College Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Lynchburg, Virginia.
