Guilford Tops Roanoke, 7-2, For Third Straight ODAC Win

SALEM, Va. – Visiting Guilford College won all three doubles matches in Sunday's 7-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's tennis victory at Roanoke College.

The Quakers moved to 5-3 overall (4-1 ODAC) with their third straight win and their fifth triumph in six outings. Roanoke slips to 5-3 (1-1 ODAC).

Guilford's Turner Votipka and Erik Meiler pulled out an 8-6 first-doubles win over the Maroons' Joseph Ross and Jose Alvarodo. Aaron Smedley and Trevor Cox made quick work of Roanoke's Chris Teeple and Jacob Morris, 8-1. Guilford's third-doubles team of Mason Church and Levi Bruff captured an 8-4 victory over Roanoke's Matt Del Greco and Holden Branham.

Ross went three sets for a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 win over Votipka at first singles and Roanoke earned a second point at second singles where Morris downed Cox, 6-2, 6-1. Meiler won at third singles, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, over Del Greco and Smedley clinched the Quakers' victory with a fourth-singles triumph over Tim Calame, 7-6, 6-4. Church downed Branham, 6-4, 6-2, at fifth singles and Bruff went three sets to knock off Alvarado, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Coach Dave McCain's Quakers visit league-rival Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday (3/25) at 3:00 p.m.
