Quakers Drop Narrow Men's Tennis Decision at Bluefield

BLUEFIELD, Va. – Host Bluefield College pulled out a 5-4 nonconference men's tennis win over visiting Guilford College Sunday.

The NAIA Rams (5-11) took two of three doubles points to start the match with a 2-1 lead. Borja Jimenez and Chas Stonestreet claimed a 9-8 (7-5) win at third doubles for Bluefield over Guilford's Levi Bruff and Mason Church. Guilford's Turner Votipka and Erik Meiler claimed the Quakers' point with an 8-6 first-doubles win over Markel Aramberri and Lochlan Kitchen.

Aramberri and Kitchen got the better of Votipka and Meiler in singles action. Aramberri downed Votipka, 6-3, 6-3, at the top flight and Kitchen posted a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Meiler at number-two singles. Jimenez defeated Guilford's Church, 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles and clinched the win for the Rams.

Coach Dave McCain's Quakers (6-9) resume Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Monday (4/14) at Randolph-Macon College in a match rescheduled from last month.
