Guilford Baseball Rallies to Defeat Methodist, 7-5

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Corey Wallace's RBI single in the ninth scored the go-ahead run in Guilford's 7-5 nonconference win at Methodist University Wednesday. Charles Noble added a sacrifice fly in the ninth to upend the host Monarchs.

The Quakers (18-18) were up 3-1 after the first inning after two consecutive RBI singles from Wallace and Noble, respectively. A Dan Ditota RBI single in the second and fourth increased Guilford's lead to four. Methodist (21-19) countered with a four-run seventh. Brandon Thigpen and David Lutz hit doubles, scoring one and two runs respectively. The Quakers' Wallace and Noble came up big in the ninth, clinching the team's third straight win.

Ditota and Herc Ingles led Guilford with three hits each. Ditota, Wallace and Noble had two RBI apiece. Levi Pruitt threw five solid innings and left with a 5-1 lead before the Monarchs rallied to tie the game against Will James. Drew Crawford (2-2) replaced James and earned his second win of the season. Justin Morrison worked around two hits in a scoreless ninth for his first save of the year.

Tyler Younger was 2-for-3 for the Monarchs. Chris Power and Thigpen added two hits each. Lutz, Cody Molosky, Ronnie Hatfield and Steven Kirby had one hit apiece. Travis Johnson (1-1) earned his first loss on the mound, although only allowing one earned run on 5.1 innings.

The Quakers return to Edgar McBane Field in their last home stand of the season Saturday, Apr. 20 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader against Randolph-Macon College at 1:00 p.m.
