Guilford Falls Twice in ODAC Volleyball Matches at Va. Wesleyan

NORFOLK, Va. – Guilford College's volleyball team dropped a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference matches Saturday in a quadrangular match hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. Randolph-Macon College dealt the Quakers a 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 setback in the opener and the host Marlins claimed a 26-24, 25-21, 25-13 win in Guilford's second contest.

Senior Brittany Freeman led Guilford (11-13, 4-6 ODAC) with nine kills and added six digs in the opening match with Randolph-Macon. Senior Malikah French added five putaways and classmate Taylor Whitley had 18 assists. Whitley also had 10 digs, one off senior Meredith Foscue's team-leading total. Randolph-Macon (17-6, 8-1 ODAC) served up 11 aces in the victory.

The Virginia Wesleyan match was a hard-fought contest that produced 13 ties and three lead changes in the first two sets. French's 10 kills on .350 hitting led Guilford's offense and her three blocks also led the team. Whitley chipped in with 24 assists, two service aces and four digs. Foscue had a match-best 15 digs.

Tempe Martens paced all students with 11 kills, three aces and 10 digs for Virginia Wesleyan (14-10, 7-3 ODAC). Tiffany Barrett chipped in 10 kills on .364 hitting and served up a couple of aces. Kristin Sessoms set up a match-high 28 assists.

Guilford is back in action Tuesday (10/22) at league-rival Emory & Henry College. First serve is 7:00 p.m.
