GREENSBORO, N.C. - Visiting Bridgewater College swept both Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's and women's tennis matches at Guilford College Saturday.
The Eagles' men (2-3, 1-1 ODAC) pulled out a 5-4 victory on Teddy Callow's 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 win over Trevor Cox at third singles. The match was one of four contests extended to three sets. Bridgewater won three of the four-set matches. In addition to Callow's win, Brad DeWitt held off 12 match points to down Guilford's Clayton Hamilton, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 at second singles and Brent Floyd escaped with a narrow 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6) win over the Quakers' Charlie Smith at fourth singles.
Guilford (4-2, 1-1 ODAC) claimed two of three doubles points, including a tight 8-6 win by Trevor Cox and Hamilton at first singles over Bridgewater's Hawkins and Callow.
Guilford entertains Virginia Wesleyan College Mar. 6 in men's and women's matches at the Piedmont Tennis Center at 11:00 a.m.
