Ranndolph-Macon Stops Guilford Winning Streak, 79-50

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. (2/19/10) – Randolph-Macon College shot a blistering 79.2 percent from the floor and forced 17 turnovers in the second half to claim a 79-50 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball victory over Guilford College Friday.

The Yellow Jackets (17-6, 15-4 ODAC) took a 35-34 lead into the locker room after a tightly contested first half that saw six ties and seven lead changes. The teams traded baskets in the second half's opening minutes before Randolph-Macon ripped off an 18-0 run that included two three-pointers by Jillian Asay. A Molly Brown layup capped the outburst and gave the hosts an insurmountable 57-40 edge with 12:22 left in the game.

Guilford (14-10, 11-8 ODAC) managed only 25.9 percent shooting in the second half and scored just five points in the final 12:03. By contrast, the Yellow Jackets made 10-of-13 shots in that span.

Taylor Wieczorek paced five Yellow Jackets in double-figure scoring with 14 points off the bench. Brown finished with 13 points and Asay scored 12. Molly Ariail also scored 12 points and added a game-high nine rebounds.

Guilford's Jazlyn Gibbs scored 12 points. Teammates Ann Seufer and Alexa Williams added 11 points apiece. The setback ended Guilford's season-long five-game winning streak.

The Quakers close the regular season Saturday (2/20) at Virginia Wesleyan College at 4:00 p.m.
