Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. (11/3/10) -- Brittany Freeman had eight kills on .444 hitting to lead Guilford College to a 25-18, 25-13, 25-14 volleyball win over visiting Salem College. The Quakers' seventh win in eight matches raises their overall record to 16-12, the program's best since 1995. Guilford swept both matches from the Spirits this year and leads the all-time series, 12-2.
Guilford hit .276 as a team and played all of its available students in the 66-minute match. Emma Gunn, Traci Teague and Mary Moody all contributed six kills apiece and hit in positive figures. Junior libero Taylor Phillips picked up 20 digs in the three-set contest and even put away three kills from the back row on four attempts. The Quakers' defense totaled six blocks, three by Teague and two solo rejections by senior setter Kate Dailey. Dailey also had a team-best 15 assists in the match.
Christine Tillman registered seven kills for the Spirits (8-20). Keri Nolan added five kills and Sara Maher contributed a match-high 17 assists. Salem managed a .041 team hitting percentage in the contest.
Guilford heads to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Friday (11/5) in Roanoke, Va. The Quakers are the eight-team tourney's sixth seed and play third-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College at 6:30 p.m. Salem meets LaGrange College in the Great South Athletic Conference, which also starts Friday.
