Volleyball Finishes Regular-Season Defeating Salem, 3-1

Greensboro, N.C. -- Brittany Freeman had a match-high 21 kills on .447 hitting and teammate Laura Kopald added 10 kills in Guilford's College's 3-1 victory over visiting Salem College Saturday morning. The scores of the non-conference match were: 25-11, 23-25, 25-13, 25-12.

The Quakers' (12-14) end the regular season with their fifth win in six games and go into next weekend's eight-team ODAC Tournament on a high note. Guilford 12 regular-season wins are the most since 2002. Salem slips to 10-18 with the loss.  

Mary Moody served up a career-high five aces, tying a team season-high, and added four kills and 10 digs during the match. Taylor Phillips set up a match-high 35 assists and had eight digs. Senior Bethany Hawks, playing in the final home match of her career, had 17 digs to lead the Quakers.  

Salem's Christine Tillman had team-high hitting honors with 11 putaways on .344 hitting. Teammate Khadija Layne picked up 13 digs, while Randi Roppolo added 22 assists.

Guilford enters the ODAC Tournament as the eighth seed and will travel to face top-seeded Randolph-Macon Friday, November 6, in the first of four quarterfinal matchups.  The event continues on Saturday, November 7, with semifinal contests in the morning followed by the conference championship match in the afternoon. All matches will be played in the gymnasium at Hollins University.
