Box Score

Salem, Va. (2-10-07) - For the second consecutive game, the Roanoke College women's basketball team used a strong first half defensive effort to secure an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory. The Maroons held visiting Guilford to just 17 points in the first half of a 65-44 Roanoke win on Saturday in Salem, VA. The Maroons are now 12-10 overall on the season and 10-7 in the ODAC. The Quakers, who beat Roanoke in the first meeting between the two teams this season, are now 8-15 overall and 7-11 in the ODAC.

Despite making just three of their first 11 shots from the field, the Maroons were able to jump out to an early 9-2 lead thanks in large part to their defense. The Maroons forced six Guilford turnovers in the first six minutes and just one field goal on its first five attempts. After Ann Seufer hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to make the score 9-5 in Roanoke's favor, the Maroons used a 15-2 run to take control of the game. When that run ended, on a Brittany Johnson layup with nine minutes to play, the Maroons led 24-7.

Roanoke's largest lead in the first half was 20 points, where it would stand at halftime, 37-17. Roanoke's second half lead would be as large as 26 points but would never be below 20 points.

Erin Hanson led the Maroons with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 21 minutes, while Caitlyn Long came off the bench to score nine points and add four rebounds, three offensive. Sara Keller scored seven points, going 5-for-5 from the line, while Lindsay Skaaf had five points in six minutes of work. The Maroons shot 88.2 percent (15-for-17) from the free throw line, their second-best single-game percentage performance of the season.

Tracey Croner's eight points led all Guilford players.
