Box Score Greensboro, N.C. (1/13/07) -- Guilford College's Jordan Snipes exploded for a career-high 41 points and Ben Strong added 26 points and a career-high 19 rebounds in the Quakers' 130-114 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball win over Emory & Henry College Saturday. The win raised Guilford's record to 11-1 (5-1 ODAC) and continues the school's best start since 1967.
Snipes, a senior guard, added five assists and five rebounds and scored 21 points in the second half. Four different Quakers notched double-digit points in the high-scoring affair. Guard Thomas Burge netted 14 points and forward Eric Belkoski tallied 15 points and shot nine-of-12 from the free throw line. The Quakers dominated the Wasps, 63-32, on the boards and made 40-of-49 free throws, which proved the difference down the stretch in the physical, high-tempo game.
Emory & Henry (7-5, 3-3 ODAC) jumped out to a quick 16-9 lead behind the shooting of Camillo Weinz and Shavar Bland and remained in front by as many as seven through the 12-minute mark of the first half. However, the Quakers rallied behind Snipes 20 first half points and cut the lead to one midway through the period. Both teams traded buckets along with the lead before a three pointer by Andrew Hart tied the game at 33. That would be the last time Emory & Henry saw the lead as a 33-17 run over the last eight minutes of the half helped Guilford to a 66-47 lead at the break. Guilford held the Wasps scoreless for a three-and-a-half minute stretch during the run.
The Quakers maintained a double-digit lead throughout most of the second half and led by as many as 21 points. The Wasps cut the lead to six points with 4:01 left in the game thanks to their constant full-court pressure and barrage of three-pointers. They drew no closer as the Quakers converted 13-of-16 free throws down the stretch to seal the game.
Weinz led the way scoring 23 points for Emory & Henry, and was joined by Hart (20 points), Lance Reasbeck (15 points), and Bland (10 points).
The Quakers return to action Wednesday (1/17) at league-rival Roanoke at 7:00 p.m., while Emory & Henry travels to ODAC-rival Washington & Lee also Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
