Guilford Outlasts Emory and Henry 101-97 to Advance to ODAC Semifinals

SALEM, VA -- Fourth-seeded Guilford used a late run to register a wild 101-97 victory over fifth-seeded Emory & Henry in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday. Freshman George Neville scored the go-ahead basket with 4.7 seconds left off a Jordan Snipes pass for a 99-97 Quakers' edge.  Caleb Kimbrough iced the game with two free throws for Guilford.

The Quakers struggled against the Wasps' up tempo style of play early on, committing 17 first-half turnovers, and Emory & Henry took a 14-point lead after Shavar Bland's layup with 8:39 remaining, capping off a 12-2 run. Guilford then came back with a 15-1 run of their own to tie the game at 38 with 4:05 to go, and the two teams ended the half with Emory & Henry ahead 48-45.
The Wasps went 10-for-42 from three-point range in the first period and shot 29.8% overall, while Guilford did not attempt a three and went 19-for-28 (67.9%) from the floor.
The Wasps led for the first nine and a half minutes of the second half until Eric Belkoski's layup with 10:36 remaining gave Guilford a 68-67 lead, and the two teams went back and forth until a 12-4 run late in the half put Emory & Henry up 93-85 with 3:11 remaining.
The Quakers then outscored the Wasps 16-4 from that point on, and the layup by Neville with four seconds remaining broke the tenth tie of the game and put Guilford ahead for good, 99-97.
The Wasps fired up another 29 three-pointers in the half, making 9 and shooting 31.1% overall on the evening, while Guilford shot 45.9% from the floor in the second half and 55.4% overall.
 Four players scored in double figures for Emory & Henry, including Cain Landreth, who added fourteen points and went 3-for-11 from three-point range. Twelve players saw more than ten minutes of action for the Wasps, eight of whom made at least one three-pointer. Ben Strong led the Quakers with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while senior L.T. Lockett added a career-high 21 points off the bench and Neville chipped in with 10 points and nine boards.
