Guilford Loses To Randolph-Macon, 85-42

Box Score

GREENSBORO, NC (1/28/06) -- Senior Megan Silva led four Yellow Jackets in double-figure scoring with a game-high 22 points in visiting Randolph-Macon's 82-45 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win at Guilford Saturday.

Randolph-Macon defeated Guilford by the same score Jan. 7 in Ashland, VA, and improved to 15-2 (14-1 ODAC) with its ninth straight win. The Yellow Jackets are ranked 15th in this week's USA Today/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III Poll and in the D3hoops.com NCAA Division III poll. The loss snapped Guilford's three-game winning streak and dropped the Quakers to 6-11 (5-7 ODAC).

A nearly nine-minute scoring drought enabled the Yellow Jackets to turn a three-point game into a 22-point rout in the first half. Silva tallied five of her 11 first-half points during the decisive 19-0 run and senior Michelle Orton added six points to the spurt. Guilford managed only 23.1 percent field-goal shooting in the first half.

Orton finished 14 points and game-high 10 boards for the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore Jannesa Morusma notched her first college double-double with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds off the bench. Her 12 points matched her personal best. Junior Salem Shaffer added 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Senior Jennifer King paced the Quakers with 17 points and added five rebounds. Rookie Heather Koehler had 11 points and a team-high six boards.

The Quakers host league-rival Virginia Wesleyan Sunday (1/29) at 4:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets move on for a 4:00 p.m. Sunday game at Emory & Henry.
