#11 Randolph-Macon College Women's Basketball Downs Guilford, 82-56

Ashland, VA (1/29/05) -- Junior guard Megan Silva led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-10 (70.0%) shooting to help the Randolph-Macon College women's basketball team to a 82-56 victory over visiting Guilford College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Saturday, January 29.  Silva also made 4-of-5 (80.0%) foul shots, and distributed four assists.  Also for the Yellow Jackets, junior center Michelle Orton shot 7-for-10 (70.0%) from the floor for 14 points, to go along with six rebounds and three blocked shots.  Senior center Emily Crider totaled 12 points, three blocks, three assists, and a team-high 10 rebounds - eight of those defensive.

 

With their 11th consecutive win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 18-1 overall and 15-0 in the ODAC.  Currently Randolph-Macon is ranked in two different Division III polls:  #11 in the USAToday/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll and #13 in the D3hoops.com website poll.  The Quakers drop to 5-12 on the season and 3-9 in the conference.

 

Randolph-Macon led for the entire contest.  From the 12:00 mark of the first half on, the advantage was double figures.  The biggest lead in the opening period was 21 points, which was the halftime margin, as the Yellow Jackets were ahead 43-22 at the break.  The host team continued to dominate in the second half, leading by as many as 29 points several times.

 

For Randolph-Macon, following the performances by Silva, Orton, and Crider, sophomore guard Kristen Morgan added eight points and four assists.  She made all three of her field goal attempts.  Sophomore guard Salem Shaffer  handed out a game-high six assists, while fellow sophomore guard Marta Merkel had five assists.

 

Guilford was led by junior guard Jennifer King, with 14 points, plus three assists and three steals.  She made 5-of-6 (83.3%) free throws.  Freshman center Brittiany Green totaled 10 points, three steals, and a team-high 10 rebounds.  Freshman guard Lizzie Wilson added eight points.
