Greensboro, NC (01/31/04) - Freshman Ashlee Henshaw's (Aroda, VA/Madison County) two free throws with 13 seconds left lifted visiting Randolph-Macon to a 77-73 women's basketball win over Guilford Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The Yellow Jackets' (12-5, 10-2 ODAC) fourth straight win ended the Quakers' (10-7, 8-5 ODAC) school-record 29-game home winning streak that stretched back to February 13, 2001.
Henshaw went to the line with the game tied at 73-73 after Guilford's Nicole McCrory (Charlotte, NC/East Mecklenburg) ran into a Henshaw screen. After the free throws, the Quakers called a time-out with 11 seconds left. Guilford rookie Dionne Graham (Savannah, GA/Jenkins) drove the length of the floor and took a shot in the paint that glanced off the rim and into the hands of Randolph-Macon's Megan Senske (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon). Guilford's A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead), whose desperation three-pointer tied the game at 73-73, sent Senske to the free-throw line with one second left where she made both shots to provide the game's final margin.
Guilford held a 68-61 lead with 3:02 remaining, but Randolph-Macon sophomore Megan Silva (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) fueled a 10-0 Yellow Jackets' run over the next two minutes that gave the guests a 71-68 edge. Silva, who tallied a game-high 27 points, scored seven points and had an assist in the game's final 2:23. She scored 20 second-half points.
Henshaw posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds off the bench for Randolph-Macon. She provided valuable post minutes as juniors Emily Crider (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) and Michelle Orton (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) were in foul trouble before fouling out. Freshman Kristen Morgan (Brigantine, NJ/Lawrenceville Prep) added 13 points and three assists for the Yellow Jackets.
Guilford's Jennie Keichline (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) paced four Quakers in double-digit scoring with 17 points and added a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore Jennifer King (Reidsville, NC/Rockingham County) scored all 12 of her points in the first half. Robertson and senior Jackie Hardenbergh (Oak Hill, VA/Paul VI) netted 10 points apiece. Guilford's leading rebounder, junior Courtney Hill (Kannapolis, NC/North Rowan), left the game with a knee injury in the first half and did not return. She is doubtful for Sunday's (02/01) ODAC game with Virginia Wesleyan.
