Box Score Ashland, VA (01/04/03) - Freshman guard Megan Silva (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) totaled career and game-highs of 20 points and 12 assists, a game-high five steals, plus seven rebounds to lead Randolph-Macon's women's basketball team to a 82-79 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Guilford Saturday. Silva made 8-of-10 free throws (80.0%), including three in the last :19 which broke a 79-79 tie and gave her team the win.
Senior guard Lindsay Carroll (Salem, VA/Salem) scored a season-high 13 points and made three steals for the Yellow Jackets, while sophomore center Emily Crider (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting (62.5%).
With their third straight win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference. The Quakers, who had a three-game winning streak snapped, fell to 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in the ODAC.
Randolph-Macon was ahead for much of the first half. The biggest margin for the Yellow Jackets was 14 points, 40-26, with 3:12 left before halftime. The score was 41-32 at the break.
Guilford outscored the Yellow Jackets 21-12 in the first 8:00 of the second half to tie the score at 53-53. After another tie at 55-55, Randolph-Macon regained control and restored the margin returned to nine points, its biggest lead down the stretch.
The Quakers would not give up, however. Down 74-65, they went on a 14-5 run to tie things up again, at 79-79, with :20 left on a Jennifer King (Reidsville, NC/Rockingham County) three-pointer. Randolph-Macon's Silva made three foul shots in the last :19 to give her team the 82-79 triumph.
Guilford was led by sophomore forward Courtney Hill's (Kannapolis, NC/North Rowan) 18 points on perfect 6-for-6 shooting, plus a team-high six rebounds. King shot 6-for-10 from the floor for 15 points and distributed a team-high six assists. Junior guard Nicole McCrory (Charlotte, NC/East Mecklenburg) and junior forward A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead) each scored 12 points. McCrory also had five rebounds, four assists, and a team-high three steals.
