KINDEM PACES GUILFORD MEN TO ODAC HOOPS WIN OVER LYNCHBURG

Box Score

Greensboro, NC (11/30/00) -- Sophomore guard Paul Kindem (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) scored 13 of his game-high 17 points in the second half as Guilford downed visiting Lynchburg Thursday night, 79-62, in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams. Kindem knocked down four of six three-point attempts, including three in the second half.

The Hornets (0-4, 0-1 ODAC) trimmed a 16-point second-half deficit to six points with 5:53 to play after junior forward Jamie Copsey (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) scored a tip-in basket to pull the Hornets within 63-57. Guilford (1-3, 1-0 ODAC) answered with a 15-1 run over the next four minutes. Kindem scored nine points during the run thanks to two trifectas and a natural three-point play.

Guilford's defense forced 30 Lynchburg turnovers, which led to 36 Guilford points. The Quakers, who averaged nearly 30 miscues in their first three outings, turned the ball over just 16 times, leading to 10 Hornets points.

Kindem's high school teammate, junior forward Brad Woolley (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) scored a season-high 13 points, including eight in the second half. Senior center Todd Ashworth (High Point, NC/Southwest Guilford) added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds before fouling out.

Junior guard Luke Ensor (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's) led the Hornets with 12 points and added seven rebounds. Rookie James Camlicay (McLean, VA/McLean) added 10 markers off the bench, while sophomore center Danny Swank (Fayetteville, WV/Fayetteville) scored seven points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. The smaller Hornets outrebounded Guilford, 46-31, including 20 offensive boards. Lynchburg played without All-ODAC forward Dennis Brown (Lynch Station, VA/Altavista), the ODAC's leading scorer last year, for the third straight game due to a knee injury suffered in the Hornets' season-opening loss at Division I East Tennessee State.

The Quakers travel to Stevenson, MD, Friday for an 8:00 p.m. meeting with Ferrum in the opening round of the Villa Julie College Tournament. Lynchburg is off until a December 6 ODAC tilt at Hampden-Sydney.
