Greensboro, NC (10/07/00) - Averett College captured first place in the 2000 Guilford College Invitational Tournament Saturday, thanks to a 5-0 record in the round-robin event. The Cougars are ranked fifth in this week's AVCA south region poll.
Seventh-ranked Savannah College of Art & Design came in second with a 4-1 record. Hamline came in third with three wins. Greensboro entered the tournament ranked sixth in the region and finished with two wins and three losses. Bridgewater (1-4) and Guilford (0-5) rounded out the field.
Averett junior middle hitter Kristy Crews (Hurt, VA/Gretna) received the tournament's Most Valuable Player Award.
