During his time at Roanoke, Fernandez helped lead the Maroons to a 20-win season during the 2021-2022 campaign, the most wins for the program in over 10 years. In his role, Fernandez was also selected as a speaker at the 2023 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Convention at the NCAAW Final Four in Dallas, Texas.

Prior to arriving at Roanoke, Fernandez spent the 2019-2020 season as the Director of Women’s Basketball Player Development at Davidson College. He assisted with player development and scouting while also serving as the team’s video coordinator.

Before joining the staff at Davidson, Fernandez served as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Mars Hill University.  While there, he transitioned to the Interim Head Coach during the 2018-2019 season.

Fernandez spent the first nine years of his coaching career as a high school coach in western North Carolina. From 2009-2017, he was the varsity boy’s assistant coach at his alma mater Tuscola High School. In 2016, Fernandez and the Tuscola staff were selected as coaches for the regional Blue/White All-Star Game.  The 2017-2018 season saw Fernandez take over as the head varsity girl’s basketball coach at Charles D. Owen High School. In his one season, before joining the college coaching ranks, he helped guide Owen to a 20-7 record and a second-place conference finish. The 20 wins and second-place finish were the best marks for the program in over a decade.

Fernandez holds a M.Ed in Coach Education and Athlete Development from Xavier University and a B.Ed. In Health and Physical Education from Western Carolina University.
