• established himself as the Quakers’ ace and led the team with 83.2 innings pitched, second in the ODAC
• his 3.33 earned run average ranked second on the team and he fanned a club-high 65 batters
• threw nine complete innings against nationally ranked Randolph-Macon College March 5 and scattered five hits with six strikeouts.
• a victim of weak offensive production (1.86 runs per game in his seven conference starts), Smithey finished the year with a 1-9 record

Personal

• transferred to Guilford in January 2016 from Cal State San Bernadino
• posted an 0-4 record with a 4.91 earned run average in 33 innings for the NCAA Division II Wolves
• fanned 23 in his 10 appearances, five of which were starts
• spent first two college season at Belmont-Abbey College where he posted an 8-9 record with a 5.76 ERA in 120.1 innings with 114 strikeouts
• three-year letter winner at Wilkes Central
