LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Guilford College men's lacrosse team (2-8, 1-5 ODAC) got rolled by No. 3 nationally ranked University of Lynchburg (10-1, 5-0 ODAC), 25-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play at Shellenberger Field on Wednesday night.
The Hornets were dominant yet merciful on this evening, outshooting GC 46-10 overall and 33-2 in shots on goal. They were also victorious on all-29 faceoffs, scooped 51 groundballs against GC's nine, and went 17-for-17 on the clearance while the Quakers went just 13-of-24.
Darius Safavi-Abbassi (Culver City, Calif.) fell to 2-8 in the cage, playing the first half and allowing 13 goals against seven saves.
Lucas Satterwhite (Oxford, N.C.) took over in the second half, allowing a dozen tallies and making one save.
Lynchburg went a keeper a quarter on the night, Eric Allen and Luca Orelli went uncontested in the first half with Allen getting the start and the win to improve to 10-1. Chris Burke and Baden Garwood each registered a save in their quarters of play.
Jason Campbell (Fairfax, Va.) and
Nick Iannone (Wellington, Fla.) took three shots each followed by
Camo Campbell (Flowery Branch, Ga.) with a pair. Each of the Campbell's got a look on frame among their shot attempts. Safavi-Abbassi led the team in groundballs with six while
Kenneth Crowley (Charlotte, N.C.),
Hudson Bosland (Otisville, N.Y.), and
Will Parham (Raleigh, N.C.) scooped one each.
Lynchburg was ethical with their scoring, dividing their 25 goals between 22 men. Mikey Richardson was the lone man to net a trio in the game while Quincy White and Evan Yale scored two each. Five assists were awarded in the game with White credited for two. Josh Caramagno spent a bulk of the night in the circle for the hosts, winning all-15 faceoffs he partook in and scooping a game-high eight groundballs.
The Hornets netted what was ultimately the game-winner just 36 seconds in as Riley Frankel won the opening draw then Cole Oprandi scored the goal before tacking another two on by the 13-minute mark. They let off the gas some for much of the rest of the quarter, save for a quartet of goals in a 106 second span from 9:29 through 7:43 to lead 7-0 after one.
The hosts racked up six in the second quarter, then blitzed for seven in just the first 6:07 of the third then wrapped things up with five unanswered in the fourth for a 25-0 win.
It is back to Appenzeller Field next for men's lacrosse, playing host to their Senior Day on Saturday, April 11
th when they host Hampden-Sydney College at noon.
