Baseball’s Rodrigues’ Hot Streak Nets D3Baseball Team of the Week Nod

Second-half heater saw senior bash three home runs, slug 1.188 for the Quakers

FOREST, Va. – Turning up his production down the homestretch, Ryne Rodrigues (Summerfield, N.C.) absolutely tore to the cover off the ball for the Guilford College baseball team, getting named to D3Baseball.com's Team of the Week for the week ending on April 19th.

Rodrigues was unbelievable at the plate, slashing a healthy .563/.632/1.188 rate over 16 at bats for the Quakers. Along the way, he bashed a trio of home runs plus a double, driving in nine runs, scoring 11, and even swiping a bag for good measure.

He seemingly could not have gotten out if he tried, particularly across GC's first-three games of the week. Opening in nonconference play against Johnson & Wales University- Charlotte, he cranked a two-run home run that granted the Quakers a lead they would never relinquish in an 18-4 win by run rule. That sparked a 2-2 afternoon that also saw him hit an RBI-single and score then later get intentionally walked by the Wildcats before GC emptied their bench. He followed that up with a career day, matching his then career-high for both runs scored, with three, and runs batted in, with five, connecting on a tandem of home runs in a 3-5 performance. His second home run of the game mirrored his longball from Tuesday, giving Guilford a lead and they never gave it up in another win by run rule, this time 16-5. The first baseman just kept on swinging it in game one of the Quakers doubleheader against Eastern Mennonite University, finishing 3-5 with a walk, a steal, and an RBI, but most-notably, a career-high four runs scored, and Guilford ended up needing every one of them in their 14-13 win. He finally cooled off a touch in the week's finale, going 1-4 with a double and a walk, though he still scored twice and drove in one run in a GC's third run-rule victory of the week, 16-6.

Rodrigues has the distinction of being just the ninth Quaker all-time to be selected to D3Baseball.com's Team of the Week. The last time that occurred was back in 2020, when Isaiah Hairston '23, MISM '24 was recognized for his performance on the week that ended on March 8, 2020.
