FOREST, Va. – Carolina Dirk (Port Aransas, Texas) concluded the regular season with her third Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Singles Player of the Week honor for the Guilford College women's tennis team, finishing an unblemished regular season in solo action and getting recognized for the week ending on April 19
th, as announced by the conference offices on Monday afternoon.
Dirk stands as just the second Quaker ever to finish the regular season undefeated in singles play, roaring through her first season in Greensboro with a superb 17-0 mark, and she finished on a high note, dropping just a single set in GC's No. 1 flight against Lynchburg and Shenandoah's top options. She swept away the University of Lynchburg's Isadora Lima, 6-0, 6-0 in a narrow Quaker defeat, 4-3, on Saturday. However, on Saturday, Guilford flipped the script, seizing a 4-3 victory with Dirk grabbing a 6-1, 6-0 win over SU's Atlee Hilliard. The success was duplicated in doubles action as well, as Dirk had two separate partnerships on the weekend, teaming with
Erika Mendez (Asheville, N.C.) to beat Lima and Kayla Kosiorek, 6-4 against Lynchburg. Then against the other Hornets, of Shenandoah, she teamed up with
Ashley Belnap (Winston-Salem, N.C.) to beat Hilliard and Olivia Guzzo, 4-1.
On the season, Dirk has fallen just a single time, that coming in doubles play, holding a 32-1 overall mark that includes her flawless singles record.
A program that had just six ODAC Player of the Week honors on record entering the season, women's tennis is now up to five this spring alone. Including her recognition in doubles action, Dirk herself is a part of five of the 11 Player of the Week honors that the women's tennis team has accrued all-time.
